Here's a Video showing collection and processing of specimen in a COVID-19
Firstly, a specimen with a requisition form is brought to the laboratory by attendant taking all precautionary measures. Secondly, Pathologist with proper PPE kit checks labelling of the specimen and matches the details of the requisition form. Then the status of COVID-19 +/-ve is marked in red.
Note: A specimen should be present in double leak-proof bag/containers
Further, formalin is changed immediately and is kept for fixation for the next 24 hrs.
Grossing and further processing of the specimen is done on the next day ensuring inactivation of the virus.
PPE’s removed with proper doffing procedure and discarded in separate red bag labelled COVID-19.
Hand washing must be rigorously maintained at every step.
